The next generation media workshop hosted by Orbit International Youth Organization With The Proud Support Of The American Embassy Of Zimbabwe promoted the creation of quality content by young Radio and Television producers in Zimbabwe within an environment which encourages freedom of expression.
The invited institutions included broadcasting regulatory authorities, Zimbabwe Electoral Committee, Broadcast Authority of Zimbabwe, Independent Producers, independent newspapers, film-makers, and many other media stakeholders. With elections expected in the country in mid 2018, the workshop enabled stakeholders to come up with ideas for content in television and radio that promotes effective programming which meets democratic ideals in the media sector. Due to imminent technological advancements in the sector, youth in Zimbabwe are taking a more participative approach and are venturing into Radio and Television production.
This has not been without its fair share of challenges because of the restrictive nature of information dissemination in Zimbabwe. However, even though the media environment in Zimbabwe is difficult to navigate, the stakeholders managed to come up with sound ideas and possible opportunities that independent producers, radio broadcasters and journalists could exploit in order to be effective in their endeavour to present the general public with necessary information.
